Food Tips For Kids
Try to make mealtimes fun, serve food so
that it looks colourful and fun to your
kids.
Keep portions small or this can put a
child off straight away, start small and
give several small portions and let your
child choose what to eat, your child can
always ask for more. Don't force your
kid to eat all their food. This will
just cause friction between you and your
child as well as tension at meal times.
Get you kids help when buying food from
the shops, prepare the food together and
make meal times fun.
Chop up vegetables and other goodies and
hide them in food you know your child
likes.
Fresh fruit, raw vegetables, savoury
biscuits including crackers, oatcakes,
rice cakes and low fat plain crisps are
all great snacks for your kids. Watch
out for hidden sugars in so called
healthy snacks, including any dried
fruit, cereals and yoghurts. A lot of
supermarkets now have a clear colour
code on the front of goods to show fat
and sugar levels.
You shouldn’t offer sweets as a reward
for eating up their main food as this
sends a signal that sweet food is better
than savoury.
