Ennerdale Webcam
Ennerdale is the
most remote lake
within the lake
district
national park.
Most people who
visit from
outside the area
do so from the
M6 motorway via
Penrith, then
head past the
ever popular
market town of
Keswick on the
A66. Take the
first turning on
the roundabout
that skims
Cockermouth (the
home of William
Wordsworth) and
you pass the
sheep and wool
centre on your
left. They have
a great sign
that says 'we
serve Barrr
Food'. You may
now think that
your in the
middle of no
where, only
about another 30
minutes drive
and 5 minutes
walk and you'll
be looking at
lake Ennerdale
in all it's
splendour. The
A5086 is a road
to be careful on
with hidden dips
and local
drivers who all
think they are
Malcolm Wilson,
the ex British
rally champion
who owns M-sport
the Ford world
rally team at
Dovenby who
lives nearby.
You'll pass the
Lamplugh Tip pub
on your way then
you soon turn
left towards the
village of
Kirkland and
this leads you
down a steep
hill into
Ennerdale
village. Just
before the
school turn left
then left again
and after a few
minutes you will
see a sign for
the lake which
is on the right.
Once at the car
park it's a
short walk to
the lake, please
note there are
no shops in
Ennerdale, but
they do have a
couple of
friendly pubs. I
recommend that
you fill up with
fuel at
Cockermouth and
make sure you
have snacks and
drinks with you
as this is not
the place where
you can pop
round the corner
for a pint of
milk.
Now you've
arrived! This is
one of the most
spectacular and
unspoilt views
in the Lake
District. With
Crag Fell and
Pillar towering
over the clear
water and not a
crowd in site,
keep this gem to
yourself!
This video is
from around the Ennerdale
valley,
fantastic
scenery and 'wild Ennerdale' at
it's best.
